Master Sport Management (MISM)

The International Master of Sport Management is a one-year study program that provides you with a critical understanding of sport management, and develops your skills to apply this knowledge. We deliver this program in English in Amsterdam.

During the course of the master you apply your acquainted knowledge to develop a business plan which you present to leaders from the sports world, integrating all the themes covered in the program. Upon completion of the program, you will be equipped with the necessary skills to hold a managerial position within a sport business, organization or foundation. You will be able to manage a sport organization and design business strategies, or decide to start your own enterprise.

Sport Management for Sports People

The program is developed under the advice of sport leaders and an international team of curriculum experts, who together assure that this master program meets the required academic standards. Experts from the sport sector provide you with up to date knowledge on sport management and related areas. We seek a balanced student group of athletes, former athletes and people with a sport passion from sport businesses. The assignments are very practical and derived from sports, which enables you to apply your new skills immediately.

Program

An introduction and six modules cover all critical aspects of sport management:

  • Entrepreneurial Management: Developing your own Business Plan
  • Strategic Management
  • Management and Leadership
  • Sport Marketing
  • Management Skills
  • Sport Finance

The study trip abroad is held over an intensive 4 days, proving a range of guest speakers, site visits and extracurricular activities. It is held in the first half of the study year and provides a great social opportunity to enrich and strengthen the connection between students, enabling them to delve deeper into their study in the second half of the year.

Requirements

In order to gain admission to the International Master of Sport Management, you must have:

  • A bachelors' degree (HBO (Netherlands) or University) and/or
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience

Experience as an elite athlete is NOT required for this program. On acceptance of your application, you will be invited for an intake for the master program. (more on Admission & Matriculation...)

Duration

The program will be delivered from September to June (classes on Monday and Wednesday). Students select either the morning (09.30-12.30h) or evening group (18.30-21.30h).

The program has 250 contact hours and additional 600 study hours over a 10-month period between September and June. The International Master of Sport Management provides 25 CEU’s (North-American IACET)

Diploma

Students who successfully complete the program are awarded the International Master of Sport Management diploma acknowledged by the Johan Cruyff Institute for Sport Studies.
